Chandler, Oklahoma, Part 2

The final caboose we found on our Fiber Christmas trip was MP 13054, outside the town of Chandler, Oklahoma. It is privately owned, and on private property.

Missouri Pacific 13054 is located on SH 18, about 5 miles south of the south SH 18/Route 66 function in Chandler. It is a little hard to see from the road, hiding behind a line of trees and bushes on the north side of the property.

We did not get a good look at the caboose. It is on private property, so we just took some pictures from the driveway. I got out of the car to see if anyone was home in order to ask permission, but no dice.

That is one of the issues with finding cabooses: how to deal with them when they are privately owned, and on private property. I feel you should always ask for permission to get up close and get on them. Pictures from the road, or any other public avenue should be permissible–but ask for anything more.

The caboose itself seems to be in fair shape, but it is getting overgrown by trees and bushes. It is starting to rust up some, too.

After we took some snaps of this caboose, we felt like our day was done. We headed back to Oklahoma City, having enjoyed Fiber Christmas and finding four cabooses. Not bad for a casual Saturday!
