El Reno, Oklahoma, Part 1

This leg of our Oklahoma Vacation led us to El Reno–to see the Route 66 sign and for some onion burgers! As part of that, we found another caboose, AT&SF 999245/RI 17145.

Traci and I went to El Reno looking to take pictures of the Route 66 sign, on, well, Route 66. We also went to try some of their famous onion burgers, and see what else we could see in the downtown area.

The first stop was the Route 66 park at the corner of Wade Street (US 66) and Choctaw Avenue (US 81). After taking some pictures at the world famous sign, lo and behold–there was a caboose! We went over and took a look at it, Rock Island 17145, and took some more pictures.

The caboose seemed to be in pretty good condition. The metal sides seemed a little weathered, but otherwise it was solid. The caboose is listed as AT&SF 999245 on the Internet, but painted as RI 17145.

After looking over the caboose, Traci and I went over to Sid’s Diner for some onion burgers–the smell outside was driving us crazy! The restaurant was a little small inside, with some tables and a bar area. There were also some covered tables outside, too.

The burgers were pretty damn good, if I can say so. I would recommend splitting an order of fries between two people–they are pretty generous with them. Also, you have to try their milkshakes–delicious!

After having lunch, we went looking for the Canadian County Historical Museum–but that is another story…
