Freedom, Oklahoma

We passed through Freedom, Oklahoma on our way from Alabaster Caverns to the Little Sahara State Park, and I am so glad we did. Not only did we find AT&SF 999701, we also met a super nice lady who gave us free prints of a mural from town, signed by the artist!

As we were driving from Alabaster Caverns State Park and through the actual town of Freedom, we kept our eyes open for another caboose. By now, we had caught the bug, and had begun to actively look for them.

Anyway, as we headed into town on HWY 50, sure enough, there was a caboose right there in front of us. I pulled over on the side of the road, and we got out and started taking photos of the caboose, AT&SF 999701. The caboose itself is in great shape, and well taken care of.

As we were taking pictures, a big black SUV pulled up, and a lady got out. I thought, "Great! Literally no one in sight in the whole town, and I’m going to get yelled at because we parked on the grass…" Actually, the lady said "Wait! I have something for you!" She proceeded to go into the caboose, and come back out with two art prints of the "Posting the Colors" mural, signed by the artist.

The mural is in Freedom, down the street from the caboose, painted on the side of one of the buildings. The nice lady turns out to be with the Chamber of Commerce, and gave us the prints for free. She invited us to see the fireworks that night, and to come back for the rodeo they have there in August.

After thanking the lady, we drove around Freedom, seeing what sights they had. It is a pretty nice little town, with a thriving downtown and some nice landmarks.

All in all, this was a great find for us. How much better can it be, too, passing through the town of Freedom, Oklahoma on the Fourth of July?
