After visiting Traci’s parents in Enid, we decided to see if we could find some cabooses on the way home. We found one in Geary, Oklahoma.
We found CRI&P 17043 in downtown, Geary. The caboose is located on the main road through town, with a small, adjoining park. The caboose itself is painted with Rock Island markings, although the railman.net listing states a full railroad listing as CRI&P.
The caboose is in fair condition. There are a couple broken windows, but the car has decent paint with only some rust. The park where CRI&P 17043 is located is in worse shape, though. The basic playground equipment is pretty run down, and needs to some attention.
That was the extent of our stop in Geary, though. The downtown area is pretty rundown, with not a lot of life. Maybe it was the fact we drove through on a Sunday, maybe that is the way it is. Still, the downtown did not show signs of investment or active businesses as such. That makes us a little sad…
