Saturday, Traci and I went to Yukon to get some shelves for our guest room. We went looking for a place to have lunch–and found another caboose!
We found UP 25865 as we were looking for a lunch spot in Yukon. We had been to Target there to get some shelves for our guest room/library. Traci got on Yelp and found a possible place called Lokal Yukon.
As we were driving down Route 66 to where the restaurant was supposed to be, Traci noticed some grain elevators–a sure sign railroad tracks would be nearby… along with a caboose!
Sure enough, just as we drove by, we saw UP 25865 in line with 2 other cars on the other side of the road! We wanted to go see them–but food came first! So we went into a place called Lokal Yukon. It was well recommended on Yelp, so we were hopeful.
I have to say–we both agreed that those were two of the best burgers we have had, ever. Traci had a traditional, All-American style burger, and I had one with this fantastic blueberry BBQ sauce–and good slice of smoked ham. Both burgers were delicious, and worth the trip to Yukon alone!
The sides were good, too–fried okra and batter-dipped fries. We even had the panko-dipped fried deviled eggs, too. Still–the burgers were the star of the show.
After we had lunch, we drove across the street to the railroad cars. There was no one there, but we were able to drive right up to the caboose, walk around and take our pictures. The caboose and other cars were in really great shape, and obviously well taken care of. The only drawback was the windows on the doors were frosted over, so we could not see inside.
Aside from taking pictures of the caboose, we need to get in touch with the museum and get the backstory of the car. It is pretty easy to get to, actually, so it will be easy to go back and talk to the folks there. But that is another trip for the future!
