Hello everyone! My name is Marc Tabyanan, and my wife Traci and I are just getting into trains, and especially cabooses. This whole website will be devoted to listing the cabooses in the state of Oklahoma, and our various journeys to find them.
How Did We Get Into This?
Well, that is a not-so-short story… Basically, we were driving around Oklahoma on our vacation in 2020, looking for various sites and attractions. We started seeing more and more cabooses, and that became a challenge to start actively looking for them. After that, we started looking for more and more information about cabooses–especially their stories.
The longer version is that we had planned to go to Maui for our 10 year anniversary–we got married there back in 2010. After COVID-19 hit, well, that squashed that plan. We still wanted to take a vacation, and have a fun time, so we thought we would look for all of the things that Oklahomans hear about around the state–but never take the time to go see.
As we started finding other sights, we kept seeing cabooses. After the third one, Traci suggested we start really looking for them. A quick Internet search told us where some of them were located, but we could not find a comprehensive list of all of them.
And that is where this website comes in… The goal is to not only document our fun finding the cabooses, but also to grow a list of all of the cabooses in the state! We have just scratched the surface in learning about trains, railroads and cabooses, so I know this will be a long road to travel. Still, we think this will be a lot of fun to do!
What Is To Come
A lot more info about cabooses, to start! The first thing we plan to do is to keep growing the list of cabooses we have found, and get it out on the site. We will also be learning more about trains and their history, and especially their history in Oklahoma. We will be getting that out to everyone as well.
I don’t expect to know everything about trains and cabooses–we are just starting to learn! I just hope to find more interesting people and places in Oklahoma, and have fun learning about them!
Marc
